Specialists in process automation

Driven by a passion for technology and entrepreneurship, Powerspex started as a family business in 1997. After nearly 30 years, this passion is still being demonstrated and shared. We want to continue doing this towards our employees, customers, and suppliers; after all, they have made us who we are today. Through this way of working, we are building a company from which future generations will reap the benefits.

As management, we work daily on Powerspex's strategy. We pay special attention to the future of the company, the atmosphere in the workplace, and innovations.

At Powerspex, family values are important. We have carefully compiled this list of core values and we evaluate our policies against them daily. In this way, we strive to create a company where everyone does meaningful work. We want to be a reliable enterprise where people work in a pleasant atmosphere and where customers come for the quality of our specializations.

‘Powerspex must be a company where you enjoy doing meaningful work.’

Simulation engineering is a world of researchers. Our people are constantly challenged to understand processes and make processes and control systems work. We do this using simulations in PsxCAD. This is a proprietary package, unique in control engineering.

Anyone who works with PsxCad also contributes to its improvement and further development. It is a unique simulation tool in which process models, process software, and HMI can be programmed.

With PsxCad, complex processes can be tested upfront and used for the optimization of existing processes. Versatile and therefore of great interest to Powerspex simulation engineers.

We are proud that Powerspex has so much in-house expertise in explosion safety. We are an 'Explosion Proof Certified Facility', and our explosion safety experts are knowledgeable in various standards such as ATEX, IECEx, and NEC500. Powerspex's workshop is certified to build explosion-proof panels.

For years now, we have been widely approached for our expertise in explosion safety, and we continue to develop our knowledge in this field.

Do we see a lot of explosions? Fortunately not. It has never happened here, but explosions do occur often in the Netherlands. Very dangerous, so it's important that we do our job well.

Powerspex's hardware engineers are involved in projects from start to finish. With us, it's not just about drawing up schematics. No, we also prepare quotations and support sales. In addition, we are closely involved in field and workshop assembly, and we handle the procurement of the necessary materials ourselves. That makes it fun and challenging work.

The atmosphere among us is excellent. We work in a team of fifteen engineers, twelve of whom operate in Hengelo and three in Veenendaal.

From complete control panels to the smallest signal connected to them, everything is designed in detail by our hardware engineers. We are always working with the latest technology.

At Powerspex, the installation of projects is carried out and supervised by our own staff. These are jobs with very different timeframes, ranging from a day to a year.

The field service team also offers service: Powerspex is ready to assist customers in the event of malfunctions and with support.

We work in a young team; the average age of the employees is 28. As a result, the atmosphere in the field service is informal; even familial. Colleagues have a lot of contact with each other. Knowledge transfer is very important. New employees constantly go out with experienced colleagues, after which they get the opportunity to work on their ambitions.

‘Knowledge transfer is very important in the field service.’

    Software Coordinator

The software engineers at Powerspex develop software for various projects. This means an enormous variety of assignments, from small systems to large installations of steam boilers and combustion plants. That variety makes the work so interesting.

Once the software is finished, it is time to test. The software engineers then go to the location to see how their work is put into practice and make adjustments if necessary.

In this way, the software engineers are closely involved in the entire project and the work is very varied.

Because the engineers at Powerspex also possess process knowledge, they actively contribute ideas and maintain close contact with customers: how can processes be simpler, better, and more efficient? Customers appreciate this, and for us, it makes the work even more interesting.

‘Software engineering is synonymous with a huge variety of assignments’

At both Powerspex Hengelo and Veenendaal, professional panel builders are actively engaged in panel construction.

Panel building is also a breeding ground for talent. Many interns—boys and girls—work in panel building, often in combination with field service. Because so many students and school leavers continue working here, the group remains young. They are all roughly the same age, and that is very good for the atmosphere within the team.

Everything done in panel building at Powerspex is special. Nothing is mass-produced; all panels are different and unique.

‘At Powerspex, all panel building is different and unique.’

    Sales Manager

At Powerspex, we speak not just of sales, but of sales engineering.

We must ensure not only that the price is right, but also that we have the right solution for the client. Sometimes a client asks for something, but we get the order for a solution we came up with ourselves that the client is very happy with. That happens regularly, and that is real engineering.

Powerspex's sales engineers maintain contact with all disciplines within the company, as well as with existing and new customers. Thanks to the experience, technical insight, and commercial mindset of its sales engineers, Powerspex can provide strong quotations that meet the customer's needs.

We work with eight colleagues in sales engineering. We work seriously, but don't expect sales engineers to just sit at their desks. In fact, we often sit with colleagues from the operational departments to find the right solution. We also regularly visit existing and potential customers on-site. After all, we need to know exactly what the situation is like at the customer's location. And so, one moment we are at a power plant, and the next at a chemical plant.

‘Sales engineers ensure that the price is right and that customers get the right solution.’

    Project Engineering

In project engineering, we work with a fun, young, and enthusiastic group of colleagues. Our work is varied.

Acting as a kind of central hub within the organization, we work on many different levels. One moment we are sitting at a client's table, the next we are brainstorming with colleagues. It is certainly not a monotonous job behind a computer.

Project engineering does entail a lot of responsibilities. Project engineers are the point of contact for clients and are expected to solve problems. For us, that responsibility does not feel like a heavy burden. No, it is actually a challenge to work on it with the entire team.

‘Project engineers are the central hub within Powerspex.’
