Renewal of Eindhoven district heating automation

Situation at the client
Following the sale of part of the production assets, the district heating plant in Eindhoven had to be completely redesigned. The plant comprises three direct-fired boilers, two heat transfer systems, a biomass plant, and three thermal buffers.
Desired situation
A new automation concept was essential to enable remote operation from a central control room, maximize the availability of production capacity, and prepare the plant for future expansions.
Challenge
Heat production, reception, storage, distribution, and water management had to be brought together on one central control platform — including redundancy and future expandability — while the availability of production capacity had to remain guaranteed during the transition.
Powerspex's approach
The implementation consisted of the design of a complete Siemens PCS 7 system architecture (V9.0 SP1) with redundant servers, single Engineering/Operator Stations, a time server, OPC Client integration, and four separate Automation Stations for the production plants.
Result
With the new Siemens PCS 7 environment, Ennatuurlijk has a modern, centrally managed, and future-proof automation solution. The modernized control system improves reliability and availability and enables efficient remote operation and monitoring.
